Since 1980 I have been working with textiles. In the early period I was
much
fascinated by the American artform "art-to-wear", a sculptural
and rather
radical type of clothing assuming the wearer of a "wearable" to
be part of
the piece of art.
Later on -in the nineties- I have been working with the surface-design
techniques;that is dyeing, printing, batik, bleaching, - even later with
collage and burning-out by soldering iron.
My inspiration for experimenting with these forms of expression mainly
derives from colleques abroad, master-classes, conferences and exhibitions
in Europe, yet mainly the TAKTHA exhibitions centered in Berlin.
My form developped to wall-hangings and collages concentrating on
sophisticating craft as well as contents;the latter very often deriving
from
history and myth like antique ceramics, cave paintings, coptic textiles
a.s.o. catching me through their values of symbols, which I find specific
relevant to our chaotic present.
